Business Models For Bloggers

For myself I have always found the hardest part in following business models created by someone else; is in most cases that it doesn’t work. It doesn’t matter whether the model involves a 10, 30 or 90 day plan, whether it is paid for or free or if it has a 10/10 rating, there is always one or more tasks that can’t be followed and this can occur for many different reasons. In my own opinion this is because the model was created for a one person and one person only - The Original creator.

Let me explain a bit more, If “John” creates a business model that covers a 30 day period of how he earned $10,000.00, that is brilliant! But it will only be brilliant for him and possibly several other people who share the same skills, time availability, passion, desire, drive, capital, personal plus professional views and the list can go on. This is not to say that “John’s” business model is wrong and its certainly not to say that “John’s” business model isn’t worth purchasing. What I am saying is that this is “John’s” business model and it works great for him but it might not work in the same way for you. For example “John” may not have any children therefore he will have more time available, a lot less commitments and if you are a parent you know first hand he’ll have a lot more disposable income than you! I personally don’t know your situation but my children seem to rob me blind week after week!

Indeed you need to have a business model with any type of business on or offline but I think the model has to cover a few key aspects:

  1. Available capital
  2. Time availability
  3. Skill and knowledge level

There is no point choosing a business model that requires you to purchase $500.00 worth of products or services each month if you can’t afford it, or if you have to write 5 articles per week because realistically you only have the time to write 2 articles per week. The other issue you may have is if a business model tells you to create your own product and that you need to pursue a joint business venture. This particular task means that you need to come up with your own product, graphics, logo, marketing and some type of sales pitch to impress not only a Guru in your field but potential buyers. You will definitely need to have these skills in order for the business model to come to fruition.

If you do attempt to try and work for yourself you will need to have some sort a business model, maybe a daily, weekly or monthly timetable, either which way you will need to have some set of tasks to complete with an overall goal in mind and this will be different for each and every person. The best thing you can do is to adjust a business model to fit your OWN requirements. If you have a business model in mind go through it with a fine tooth comb and realistically question whether or not you can cope financially? Whether or not you have the skills? If not how will you develop them? What the cost is likely to be and how long will it take for you to learn the required skills? etc. And overall will the business model fit into your current timetable. I think you could potentially set yourself up for failure if you can’t complete one or two of the tasks in a business model, we are a tad fickle like that, maybe its the human nature in us all!

Lets say the business model you’ve decided to adopt requires that you post a message in a forum each week as an attempt to market your website or product. Personally I don’t like posting in forums for marketing, its way too time consuming, you can easily upset people, and you can get side tracked. Instead I would think of a different marketing task I could do, I might choose to post an article to a directory or I might decide to bookmark my content on my own website or I may choose to comment on someone else’s blog. Its all about adapting the business model to suit me and what I feel comfortable doing. I might even decide to post a classified ad somewhere. This doesn’t mean that you neglect to complete a task because you can’t be bothered its more so about substituting the task so that you can gain consistency in your work.

To my mind I can think of two people who may be able to guide you in the right direction, neither one of them will charge you for their services so this might be a good start for you!

Option One

Mark Ling has a successful program. The membership is free and you are able to access a 30 day plan, Mark has received raving reviews over the past few years so I think you are in safe hands! There are a number of Videos to get you through as well as Pdf’s and Support.

Option Two

The other person I thought of would have to be Terry Dean. He offers a free intern program, each week he’ll send you a number of tasks to complete with directions via video. This is quite good because he basically gives you free training from content writing through to marketing and much more, although you are working for him without pay, there are opportunities for those who do really well in his program for paid employment once the Intern program is complete. Again something I would recommend.
