Pay your loans or get your mug published in the Newspaper!

Well this is a newbie to my eyes! Recently I watched a program called Target here in New Zealand which screens on a Tuesday evening I think……………..anyway they have this section on their program called “Shame On You” and with good reason I might add. There is a finance company here in NZ who will give you a loan providing you fit their criteria; as with all loan and finance companies…….but!!!! and there is a pretty big “but”

If for any reason you happen to default on your agreed payment and this could only be one payment, your photo WILL be published in a newspaper that is sold in NZ as well as Tonga. This particular clause in the contract is there in black and white, clear as day; but the majority of the clauses are written in two languages apart from this particular clause about your photo being published, Shame, shame, shame on you!!! Some of their clients didn’t even know about the clause, double shame on you!

I know if you agree to take out a loan or a credit card you should make good on your promises and adhere to the contract, there is no doubt about it. But to go to the extremity of publishing a clients photo in the paper is somewhat of a concern especially if this wasn’t made clear in the first instance.

Is this the extreme finance companies are going to in NZ? From memory I think at least 9 finance companies have ceased operation in the last 12-15 months? Is the problem to do with the NZ economy? Or is it that NZ citizens have no idea of how to manage their debts? What ever the reason may be; check and double check every clause in any contract before you sign!
