Will Email Marketing Make You Rich?
You may be thinking of signing up to a email marketing service such as Aweber or you could already be a member wondering why your bank account isn’t turning over the numbers you thought it would. I am also pretty confident you’ve heard of the saying “The Money Is In The List”! To some extent this is true, and it is also true that you can make substantial amounts of money on autopilot using email marketing. But………….
You may want to consider the following components for reference:
- The company you use
- The product or service you are targeting
- Show You Care With Empathy
- The type of Content you are sending them
- The time frame in which you are sending your communication
Let’s start from the beginning, “The Company You Use”: There are several options available, most if not all of the free services such as Free Autobot will send your potential buyers advertisements in between confirmation emails and the like, there is a huge chance you will loose your potential buyer before they even bother to read what you have to say. You must remember that these free services offered aren’t exactly free, these companies still have overheads themselves which they tend to generate income by charging for advertising from other people, then you get to advertise these ads for companies like Free Autobot completely free of charge because you are using their email service for free. Spam is also a problem online today, so you must make sure you choose a company that is going to protect you from CAUSING spam.
The particular service I use is Aweber, I choose to use this company for many different reasons, they don’t show any of my subscribers free advertisements, they protect me from spam, my clients can unsubscribe at any time and there are several designs, templates as well as great support. Nice and simple!
Next on the list, “The Product or Service You Are Targeting”: This is again pretty simple, you need to make sure there is a market for the product or service you are promoting, you may write the best piece of content known to man but if no one is interested - no one is interested period! You can use this keyword Tool from SEO Book to get a general idea of the demand out there. If you are promoting an ebook of “How to make wooden toys” first search for the broader terms like “Childrens Toys” or “Wooden Toys” and then break it down further to “Make Wooden Toys” or “Buy Wooden Toys” etc I’m sure you get the general idea.
“Tip” Find your market before you start writing any content!
Moving along, “Show You Care With Empathy”: You are never going to know what is on the minds of your subscribers, unless you are physic of course! Just like me, if you don’t have these abilities you can get a general idea of their desire to buy by offering discounts on your products or services or offering free reports, tips and tricks etc. Don’t give them rubbish you found on the net, put yourself in their shoes - instead write reports and the like with empathy. Show your subscribers that you actually DO give “two hoots” about them! Using the example of “Wooden Toys” Even if you don’t know how to make Wooden Toys or if you haven’t read the Ebook you are promoting (which is not recommended) you can branch out a little further - write reports about different Places they could sell their Wooden Toys online or offline, How to set up their business in regards to Tax and Time Management. If you are really unfamiliar with your product or service simply branch out a little from it which may help guide your subscribers into a sale.
I want to attempt photography, if I was prompted with some sort of motivation from a subscription, sure I’d probably get off my butt and do something about it! (Now I wonder who is going to send me their email subscription hahaha!) Show empathy and guide your subscribers to what you are offering because you may very well see a increase in your conversion rates.
“The Type Of Content You Are Sending Them”: Hmmmm if you are outright sending sales letters with no useful information, then what do you expect? I certainly hope it wasn’t a sale! I remember being on the list of whom I thought was quite a good marketer, I’m not going to mention his name but I swear he was sending me two emails a day, one was selling me something and the other was giving me one months free membership. I’m not sure how many memberships sites this person had, but free memberships were coming out of my ears, talk about creating confusion. If someone has gone to the trouble to enter their name and email address into your form, that’s fantastic but don’t try to get rid of them before you are able to show what you really have to offer.
Finally - “The TIme Frame In Which You Are Sending Your Communication”: Now as mentioned above don’t send two emails a day! If you are going to offer a series of tips and tricks it may be better to send your subscriber a task to complete over the next two to three day period before you send your next communication. You may request your subscribers send you a brief description about their desire to take up “Wooden Toy Making”. You maybe able to gage the interest you have from your subscribers and whether or not they were potentially in it just for the freebie. It may also help you to personally understand your subscribers so you can delivery exactly what they want.
The only time I would recommend you send emails on a daily basis is if you are offering a free email course. Many people tend to get frustrated if they have to wait several days for their next lesson.
Take what I am saying with a grain of salt, try different parts of this strategy or take only the parts that apply to you. So often we read what we see and that is it, no one else can change our minds until we are ready to try something else because our previous attempt didn’t work out! Make it work for you, that is what it is all about.
